The first million kilowatt level hydropower EPC project in China for power generation
North Star Hydroelectric Power Network News: China's first million kilowatt level large-scale hydropower station, the Yalong River Yangfanggou Hydropower Station, was built using the design and construction general contracting (EPC) model. On the morning of the 30th, the first 375000 kilowatt unit was connected to the grid for power generation. This also marked the beginning of the second production and power generation of the Yalong River's middle reaches power station.
Yangfanggou Hydropower Station is a major national clean energy project and a key power supply project in both China and Sichuan Province. During the construction process, the power station deeply integrates design, scientific research, and construction units, with design and construction personnel sharing food, housing, and work. It fully integrates the technical advantages of the design unit with the on-site experience and equipment resources of the construction unit, reducing the drawbacks of ineffective communication between the design and construction units and wasting resources and time in the traditional mode, and achieving the goal of "reducing costs, filling shortcomings, improving quality, and increasing efficiency".
This is another important reform practice in the field of hydropower construction in China, following the public introduction of bidding competition for the Lubuge Hydropower Station. According to Zeng Xinhua, Director and Party Secretary of the Yangfanggou Construction Management Bureau of Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., since the construction of the Yangfanggou Hydropower Station, there have been "zero accidents" in the safety and quality of the project. The dam was opened for water storage on December 30, 2020, nearly a year ahead of the contract period, The unit is connected to the grid for power generation six months in advance, and the project investment is fully controlled.
The Yangfanggou Hydropower Station has a dam height of 155 meters and a total installed capacity of 1.5 million kilowatts. After its completion, the average power generation for many years is about 6.856 billion kilowatt hours, which can improve the situation where Sichuan Hydropower Station is mainly a runoff type power station with a significant difference in output during high and low seasons, and is conducive to optimizing the power supply structure and improving the quality of power grid operation.
The main stream of the Yalong River, with a planned installed capacity of approximately 30 million kilowatts, is the third largest hydropower base in China. Yangfanggou Hydropower Station is the first power station in the middle reaches of the Yalong River to be put into operation for power generation, and the Lianghekou Hydropower Station, the leading reservoir in the middle reaches, will also be put into operation for power generation within the year. In the future, the cascade power stations in the middle reaches of the Yalong River can transmit power to the Jiangxi load center and the Central China Power Grid through the Yazhong Jiangxi ± 800 kV ultra-high voltage direct current project, which has been completed and put into operation.
At the same time, in order to help achieve the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, Yalong River Company also proposed the development strategy of new energy and pumped storage on the basis of the original basin hydropower development, and planned to build a demonstration base of water scenery complementary green clean renewable energy in the Yalong River basin, with a total installed capacity of 80 million kilowatts.
